Servers Sales May Jump

Sales of video servers will jump to $2.3 billion by 2003, a whopping 800% jump from 1996, according to Frost & Sullivan.

The company predicts that services such as digital ad-insertion, distance learning, in-flight entertainment, video archiving and Webcasting will produce the bulk of sales in the coming years, even though rapid market expansion is not expected until the turn of the century.

The company divides the server market into six vertical segements: broadcast, business, cable TV/telecommunications, education, government and medical. Broadcast is the largest purchaser of servers, followed closely by cable/telecom. (Frost & Sullivan, 212/964-7000)
