Speaking of McCain, do you really really want to get money and lobbyists out of Washington? Cut the Federal Budget 50%. Lobbyists will scuttle away like rats and the cost of a Senate seat will drop by 2/3s.

AND ANOTHER THING! (you got me riled up)

Statist get to define the premise of every big national debate.

Premise: We must collectively help the poor.
Premise: The federal government can most effectively help the most poor people.

So the argument is what is the best way for the federal government to help the poor. Democrats fight Republicans over details of the programs and who is better suited to run them. If you try to step outside this framework you are dismissed as a selfish, states rights bigot, who wants poor people to die.

Repeat this for every major issue we talk about here.

they're not as well trained as telephone salespeople who have a come-back for every way in which the target can say "no."

Many years ago I told a phone solicitor for magazine subscriptions that my wife and I were both blind. Without missing a beat she responded that we could look at the pictures.
