Why split hairs. If medicaid isn't included as welfare in the article the situation is more grave. One of the greater problems with the welfare system is the "earned income credits". Not only does it create a class of untaxed workers, it pays them large sums just for working.

Welfare was on it's way to recovering, however Obama insisted that if states accepted the stimulus money they could no longer ask the recipient to look for work. Is that a sin of some sort? To merely ask a recipient to get off their ass and look for work if they are able?

Both welfare and "earned income credits" encourage divorce, separation or simply discourage marriage. It creates an enormous class of individuals who see welfare and "earned income credits" as a career and baby making an investment.
