there is some truth to the idea that a weak dollar can help the economy and trade deficits.

at some point, if the dollar is devalued enough, it becomes cheaper to make and subsequently purchase domestic goods.

And, of course, it does make it easier for international concerns to buy american too.

A weak currency is just one of the natural mechanisms that the market has to fix a broken economy. It is just part of the economic cycle and we shouldn't fight it or try to force it. We should just take advantage of it by starting up more domestic manufacturing of real goods.

of course, the unions will do their best to sabotage this.

So it does stimulate exports and reduce imports...but, I have to admit, it was a whole lot more fun having a strong dollar.
