>> Kids who are spanked have lower IQ's.

What a ridiculous claim.

Junk science designed to get a desired result:

But while the results only show an association [edit: NOT causation] between spanking and intelligence, Straus says his methodology and the fact that he took into account other factors that could be at play (such as parents' socioeconomic status) make a good case for a causal link.

"You can't say it proves it, but I think it rules out so many other alternatives; I am convinced that spanking does cause a slowdown in a child's development of mental abilities," Straus told LiveScience.

==================

So, let's get this straight. Statistically, of course, correlation is not causation so "you can't say it proves it" -- but still, this guy is "convinced". "Convinced" based on what? Based on a process of elimination in which there are literally hundreds or thousands of possible alternatives?

I thought you were the guy who was so big on "education" and scholarly research?

I think kids who are required by their schools to recite Barack Hussain Obama over and over have lower IQs. It is statistically significant.

Baloney. Having said that, I'll say my Mom and Grandmother were never spanked as children - that side of the family just didn't do it. I don't think it was done too much on any side of my family and I don't think it hurt anyone or the lack of it did either.

Some kids you may have to spank some along the way, others you may be able to avoid it, like my Mom and Grandma.

Trying to make it out as some great evil is silly though.
