Do you really think Compaq is the willing partner with Intel ? Could it be another case that if they don't superficially sell intel's NICs, they would be cut off from Intel's processors ??

Companies like Compaq are in a very difficult position, their life-blood (in this case the cpu) comes from one single source. AMD/cyrx will never be able to supply the volume they requires.
