it is a fact.

show me a 1998 GW prediction that shows temperatures would cool over the next decade.

show me a 2002 GW article that predicts temperatures would flatten out.

otherwise, keep speaking in meaningless blurbs and adding ZERO information.

"Scientists say the pattern of the last decade — after a precipitous rise in average global temperatures in the 1990s — is a result of cyclical variations in ocean conditions and has no bearing on the long-term warming effects of greenhouse gases building up in the atmosphere.

But trying to communicate such scientific nuances to the public — and to policy makers — can be frustrating, they say."

No kidding!

There is no question that warming is the overwhelming scientific consensus, and I've spoken personally with a Nobel winning scientist (a former professor of mine), and he is very concerned - and he isn't prone to exaggeration. We are definitely facing a serious problem.

I consider climate change to be a global IQ test - and I tend to be an optimist, so I think we will pass. But I don't bother engaging the deniers.

As you noted in an earlier post, the important discussion is about the solutions.

Gulf water temps were much warmer in recent years. We have had many more natural disasters that are more intense in areas that are prone to fires, tornadoes, floods or hurricanes. Talk to someone in Boston or upstate NY and they will tell you it doesn't feel warmer in general than 25 years ago. Talk to someone from Atlanta, DC or in Florida and most will tell you it has been much warmer in recent years. Actually the last winter was the first 'normal' winter I can recall in at least 6-7 years. Climate change does not necessarily equates to global warming.

I remember listening to some conservative talk show host about two years ago dismissing it all, branding anyone not in his little box as a left wing loonie, when two CAT fives pounded remote fishing villages in Mexico within weeks of each other instead of heavily populated Houston or Miami that were in the cone only days earlier and averted catastrophic destruction. As if the path a CAT 5 took made his position look stronger<ng>
