The abolitionists were mostly Christians. For some reason for years, I keep reading liberals on SI deplore that the US didn't let the south secede. It seems most liberals would have been happpy to let slavery continue. They certainly wouldn't have fought to end it.

Leftist Red icon, John Reed, played by Warren Beatty, despised blacks as "c**ns" and "n*ggers". Leftist free love, eugenics, and abortion promoter, Margaret Sanger, was a racist allied with the KKK. Liberal President Woodrow Wilson, was another KKK fan who introduced segregation to the federal bureaucracy and the US Navy. Liberal Attorney General of California (where 90% of US mainland Japanese-Americans lived) Earl Warren, called on Washington to arrest all citizens of Japanese descent on the west coast and liberal FDR complied.

Koan, > And they were mostly liberals who stood up against that barbarism.

Did you know that Lincoln was a devout Christian?

> And th right wing thinks all science and liberals ideas are jsut plain stupid. Science is stupid. How does one debate a person who thinks that way??

You're doing the same thing SilentZ is doing. Arguing against straw men.

I'll wait until you're finished before telling you what I personally believe. Otherwise, I'd be wasting my time.

In the south most of the people thought slavery was Ok until the north forced them to abandon it in the civil war.

Maybe, but can you prove it?

Certainly, George Washington & Thomas Jefferson thought slavery was okay -- but they were, after all, slaveowners. Most people in the South were not.
