Kenneth, we did not have Japanese nor Blacks in my city growing up, although I am much younger than you. The country did not intern Japanese across the nation, it was primarily a coastal issue. Some schools in the midwest for example accepted Japanese students during WW II. They were allowed to leave camps on the coast and attend schools which accepted them. You most likely did not see Japanese students in your elementary school because there were none living in the area.
