It was a strategic success. The world is still paying a price for what was sacrificed in principle. Targeting innocents to effect an advantage against your enemy is wrong, was wrong, and forever will be wrong.

I'm grateful my father got to come home from the South Pacific and start a family but that is beside the point.

Strategy and principle should be considered fingers to the palm. Both are important when putting your hand into things. Niether should be sacrificed for the sake of the other. JMO

There you go, with yet ANOTHER straw man! You just can't seem to help it. I've always felt the A-bomb was horrible, but better than continued war and an invasion of the Japanese mainland.
