Then they get into some seriously socialist stuff like how education is key, and staying in school and working hard will enable them to help America become a better place.

Didn't think that these are socialist ideas. I would agree with you if instead you said these are ideas that most conservatives do not embrace. But that education is key is something that most people, irrespective of their political views would agree.

I thought I'd post a couple of links on the subject of political indoctrination of children, a subject I correctly assumed would be under discussion here on SI.

In this link, the president talks to schoolchildren about many social and political issues -- including gun control, minority educational opportunities, his belief in the possibility of decreasing the national debt without raising taxes, punishing those who attempt to discriminate, patriotism, the accomplishments of his administration and related subjects:

In this video tape, these children at a church camp (not a public school, but it's interesting) are being unashamedly indoctrinated in front of a large cutout photo of their admired president. It almost gives the impression that the children are being taught to pray to the president, but I think that's inaccurate, and the word "warfare" used by the teacher also convinces me that demonstrating a worshipful attitude isn't the same as praying.
