Well, ... if it can translate real handwriting script and scrawled diagrams into text and pdf's say, it has a real market for those in generations where those two talents where taught in schools...

I also think it's part of Jobs' lingering obsessive wish for personal vindication for introducing the Newton.

Perhaps I'm misreading your statement, but wasn't it John Sculley who originally promoted the Newton, that Steve Jobs then killed when he returned to Apple? Or perhaps you mean this upcoming tablet device is the Newton that Steve Jobs really wants?
