i would not do make up air. if your house is built tightly and you discover you have an issue with the exhaust pulling against a "vacuum"....... that would be easily remedied by say a small closeable opening near the hood location, or cracking a window, to break the pressure. and definitely get a variable speed switch as well as a back draft damper for the exit opening. also get a piece of their 12x12 steel duct, if you are of course going direct through the wall, which would be the most efficient way. fan will be sized per the interior dimenions of the hood. hood should be sized per the equipment that will be under it.

all stainless. a steal and it works compared to the high end crap sold at design places etc. the filter (s) will fit in a standard size dishwasher. also get hood lights.

ceiling height and correct distance above cooking surface is important to consider as well. if you only have an 8 ft ceiling, you might have to wing it a big by cutting back on the typical 24 inch depth.

unless your landlord will pay for it... save it for a house you plan to own, imo.

i forgot to mention, just to illustrate. my hood works so well that i often fill up an Habatchi grill and throw on wet wood chips, and grill right in the house. all the smoke goes out. really cool when you want to grill, but its raining outside <g> you could set up a smoker under the same, and that would work as well. of course if the power ever went out, there might be a sudden smokey problem.

but for that, you install a back up generator <g> data for that is probably for a different topic thread.
