"Actually my take is that forgiveness as actually for the self... harbouring ill will or even thoughts about the issue over time is self destructive... Well and good but reconciling with the perp or for the perp with society at large requires the perps mutual engagement. You can forgive the pedo-rapist if you want to but you wouldn't send your grandchild to him for baby sitting unless there had been a complete reconciliation of trust. (I know I picked an extreme example but that is what it takes to make a point sometimes)
