They should have great earnings. Look at all Semi Equp makers like Gasonics, Semitool, Micrion. All of them beat estimates today.

I have a business that has formed a joint venture with a Chinese company. I agree with all of the points raised by the post from the other thread. As of now, China is still a difficult place to do business. The deals that I am working on are taking much longer than expected. This is very discouraging.

However, there is a huge demand for technology in China. There now exists a huge emerging consumer class in China that is buying the newest computer technology. When I was there in the fall, I went to a street in Beijing that had hundreds of shops selling only computers. They only wanted pentiums, not 486. They were just starting to sell servers and lan technology. This market is going to grow very quickly.

From what my Chinese partners told me, the Chinese market is growing rapidly. By the year 2000, 200 million Chinese will have a income of over 20,000 per year. The cost for housing, food, and health care is very low. It is subsidized by the state. There are many many high end stores in Beijing and other large cities that sell expensive products. The agreement today will make it much easire for American companies to sell technology in the next few years.

Best wishes,
Dan
