The difference between what you propose and what you can do now is just wireless. Right now you can take your laptop and with proper cables and with a TV with HDMI inputs (most have them nowadays, I think), hook them up and happily use the (non-Apple, so far) TV and there you go until your spouse trips over the cables causing both devices to smash to the floor "dear, you shouldn't leave these things lying around, I could have tripped and chipped a nail" Oh yeah the other difference is, oh course - tablet :-)
