As long as inflation rates remain low, the Vanguard GNMA Fund continues to perform well. If the economy tips into deflation, it will remain a top quality performer. If it tips into rising inflation, then reversals of appreciation gains we are seeing now will offset monthly income yielding disappointing returns. I'm sure Vanguard management will minimize those reversals by maximizing investments in short term GNMA's. It's comforting to have that guarantee by Uncle Sam, but suppose suddenly the dollar is devalued 50+%. Then what and how does one protect against that. I remember Brinker telling a caller on a recent program about T ROWE PRICE International Bond Fund.
