The little chief is only about 12-14" by 12-14" by about 24-26" tall. So not large at all. The non iodized salt can be bought at the grocery store it is cheap but you can get powdered sea salt at a health food store. White sugar. I like the top loader you just have to set the meat shelves into the smoker carefully as to not knock the shelves around.But I never had a front loader. I bought mine when they were about 40 bucks so how things change. LOL. And yes smoked salmon is also very easy to make and the booklet that comes with the smoker has a good brine recipe with smoking times. tom
