>>One could argue lust is up there,<<

what do you think acting out on lust is? it is simply human selfishness (putting one's lust feelings above the interest of others is simply selfishness), the root of *all* evil.

>>but I'm talking about war and hate.<<

both "fruits" of the human selfishness "tree."

>>John Lennon had it right.<<

but he wasn't first. ;-)

>>I could find 100 random people/messengers of god with 100 unique interpretations of the bible and every passage within.<<

and everyone would be wrong on one level or another - including me.

that's why i keep to the simple message if the bible, care for others equal to oneself or else there are consequences. we all fail at this pretty miserably and we all suffer the consequences to one extent or another. but at least there is a workable framework that helps one derive positive purpose from life. as for the world as a whole - the ultimate destruction of "all flesh" is predicted and i see nothing that indicates there is any debate here other than timing.

>> If the message was so important and intended for all, it should have been written more clearly.<<

which ought to tell you that it currently isn't intended for all (just yet, anyway. ezekiel 37 shows a time when *everyone* gets the message straight from the messenger). jesus made it clear he spoke in parables to confuse people, not to increase understanding.

>>Where's the damned editor when you need him?<<

only god is the editor and the message is simple - care for others equal to oneself (not more, not less, equal).

>>At least the Ten Commandments were short and sweet<<

and used by selfish people as an excuse not to care for others equal to oneself - a much more challenging task. the religious man who walked by the injured man in the good samaritan parable didn't break any of the ten commandments, but he failed to care for others equal to himself.

in short, god has been much maligned. he represents good and our selfishness causes problems we don't intuitively see. before making people eternal, he's allowing them to live a temporary existence and temporarily live out their own theories of life. these will all "unexpectedly" fail miserably until such time as life on the planet is in danger of extinction. god intervenes to save us from our selfishness and it everything ends well for people who learn to care for others equal to oneself.

think about it - only an evil god would extend our current reality out to eternity. the selfishness and greed has to be shown to be the evil that it is - and, unfortunately, *pain* is an excellent teacher.

that's the way i see it and the only thing i know is that almost nobody will agree with me. and maybe for good reason. ;-)
