Thread, hot stuff happening
The BTO's are rocking
IBM is even going to move testing out and the real coup de grax
will be if IBM can pull off the processor placement program. that is place the
MHZ(CHIP) in at the last second. And put that on demand pull.

Also, looks like one thing in cpq's favor is that 15 day price protection is becoming std.
cpq usually gave 60 and this helps cpq.

HP is go after the processor placement at dealer too ...

cpq will eventually but they haven't talked about it yet(put the processer in at dealers).

Design for manufacturability is now becoming design for distribability
DFM to DFD.

these dealers are starting to replace dell with these programs.
I've had the dealer doing modified BTO since 1993.
You actually can transfer all the baloney back to the distributor and use your pc
specialist and CNA's for real pc work. Let the dealer do all the junk work.
Dealers are starting to knock dell out with BTO strategies and it will hurt dell. Dealers are getting huge deals now that wnet to dell the last few qtrs...you'll read about them soon in the rags.
independent research is finding them now
you'll see them in trade rags soon.
no one will beleive me anyway. I heard even computerland won a big deal that
normally would have gone to dell.
My take on it since i've gotten dealers to switch over yrs ago is I'm getting them
to do allot of the work and even put my login scripts on pcs and my lower level
staff which are the CNA's can do real work.
Every hour you spend messing with pcs and networks is non value add..
a waste of your resources.

Cpq has a new after sale service plan...their 10th one<<GGGGGGGGGG>>>>>
this one looks better... no descriptions from me..I don't think the trade rags will
blow describing it. I'm starting to see so much of cpq's new service programs in the
press that they must have hire Carvel as their new PR guy...after all he did get
Clinton in.

dealers are moving big into Latin America..my guess is they succeed.

With the higher mhz chips..notebooks naturally will move up.
The Notebook is the only place you always get power no matter what
but the p166 and p200 classic is here..but, don't count on them staying long..
the dells',ibm's and even cpq don't want them to remain.
they don't make as much money. I remember months ago my cpq dealer told me
that there were no more p166's... well. what do I have coming money..p166. They tried to fry the p166 months ago and couldn't do it.
anyway..they will kill them soon and it's a planned deal between the dealers,
mfg'er and intel and amd.

IE4.0(browser) is claiming a record..1 million clients and they only accidentailly reformated
400,000 hard drives and wiped out the customers entire system..
that's a record <ggg>

I have a quote from Stan Shih " Dell is a marketing compnay, they are not a
computing compnay" He's the president of ACER I think..
I think he feels safe . He's a black belt in Kung Fu and doesn't have to fear
Micheal retalitation <ggg>

Guess what..everything I see and buy now has an intranet.
netscape, MSFT, dimono. notes, you name it..it does what you buy it for plus it's an intranet.
I took my car in for service the other day and one of the products the service
man was trying to sell me could also be an intranet.
Boy, that STP is really getting universal. Yep, the garageguy said " this STP is also an intranet"

I hear they are phasing out the 1.6 Gig drives..
that's good since I think the next Netscape 5.0 is going to take up 2.1 gig on
your drive.

This is enough for one post...
I have another research report on forecasted spending in MIS..it's a lulu.burkites are going to like it.
It will cover all MIS spending in every industry so meathed can't say
that I only know manufacturing and don't have a clue as to what Exxon,
Selectron, DOW, Citibank, Prudential, etc are doing...

oh methead..did I tell you that from request(by engr VP) to deployed application ,I'll have our new Software Error tracking reporting system completely finished in 8 days.. it will be a Lotus 4.6 app on domino server and so intuative that the traiing course is designed to be less than 20 minutes. Yes, engrs are great but, they need us to give them creative intuative apps that reduce all the clerk work out of their job and allows complete TQM of process and JIT also.
It's only the first Lotus app too.
