HOUSTON, Oct 16 (Reuters) - Compaq Computer Corp said
Thursday its board had approved the initiation of a quarterly
dividend and a two-for-one stock split. Compaq said the dividend would be $0.03 per pre-split share, and $0.015 per post-split share.
"The dividend and stock split allow us to share our success
with our shareholders," a Compaq statement said. "These actions
reflect our confidence in Compaq's long-term growth. In
addition, the cash dividend payments and lower post-split share
price will make it easier for individual investors to purchase
the stock, thus broadening the company's ownership base."

It said approval for increasing the company's authorized
common shares for the stock split would be solicited from
stockholders of record on October 31, 1997
The dividend is payable January 20, record December 31.
Compaq said it will start a dividend reinvestment plan and
a direct purchase plan that will be available to stockholders
before the date of the first dividend payment.

judy & john all: we will soon be getting many bargains in techs...
if dell goes down then cpq will go with it too.

amat goes down w. intel.

judy, is it time to go long NN, i like NN and LU. Lu too xpensive.

dell, i can not sell nov/dec calls. I have paid premium for 99 leaps
and would not want to be called away. I have an intermidiate/long term out look on dell. As long as some where in the futrue they are in business, i would be ok.

no matter what u think, i m not a quick mover and can not think as fast you and truff, so i don't get in and out. If i m loosing my orignal money then I bail out.
