That didn't come out right. NO, I don't think his goal was to "bankrupt the country". I think his goal was the spend wildly without consideration for what it does to the country's future. The figurative term "bankrupting the country" is just a by-product.

I believe he thinks government is the solution to all of America's problems. If government spends enough, you can lift the poor out of poverty. And you can simultaneously eliminate what he perceives as an inherent unfairness in capitalism -- that successful people have better lives more money (and the financial security that comes with it) than less successful ones.

I don't actually think he can "bankrupt the country". But he can spend enough money that inflation and/or interest rates will make us THINK we're bankrupt and perhaps even WISH we were.

I do believe the stimulus bill was the most fiscally irresponsible action I've ever seen a president take. And I can't come up with another that even comes close.
