They perform better and cooler S. American winter than in a north hemisphere full blown summer. Many records will be broken in sports like:

800m
marathon
olympic march

I've been in Rio during their winter and it felt like summer to me.

Only in the far south of Brazil do they get any kind of real winter.

Edit don't know the details but was Brazil as a whole given the Olympics as opposed to any one part of Brazil? I spent a month of my life traveling around Brazil and it's a pretty big place.
