Our advise on dealing with young women comes with a money back guarantee (we send you back exactly what you paid us <g!>).

Re her cell phone plan --

Not knowing all the ins and outs of dealing with the cell phone carrier with the IPhone monopoly in Brazil, but based on my experience here:

1. You will need to buy a phone from that particular carrier. They may have a variety of plans just for the IPhone (different from the other phones they carry). At least that is what ATT does here.

2. You can try to get an unlocked Iphone from some where else, but (not being an expert in telecommunications) I do not recommend that. The carrier may discover you and find some way to lock out the phone. In any case, you will need a data plan.

Best bite the bullet and go with #1. That being said, no doubt you have friends in the business that know more about ways to finesse this in Brazil.

She will probably have to change to an IPhone plan... but there should be some type of family plan with shared minutes and a discount.

Here in US we get an 18% discount through my wife's employer... something else to explore.

You may be interested in getting one yourself. There are all kinds of neat apps for it (and lots of them are free). For example I use free apps from:

Bloomberg (updated market index and commodity quotes)
Kitco (same for PM)
Reuters
Skype (enabes use of your skipe plan and live calling from any wifi connection without using your cell minutes).
Google Earth
Safari (included, full multi page web browser)
I also use google voice through safari (apple killed the dedicated app).

Of course, the experiment will probably not use any of these... she will find her own, last count there were over 24,000 apps and climbing.
