Personally, I've never considered him to be an automatic lefty liberal. Liberal yes, but he'll call a spade a spade and I'm glad to hear he did so in this case.

I find Maher's opinions to stem more from common sense than from knee-jerk reactions.

His opinion on Polanski is a case in point.
