Curly,
Your prose is always so enchanting, yet true and quite insightful. It is a great pleasure to see "the big picture" through anothers eyes.

Thanks again,

Dusty

P.S. Sometimes it sucks to be Joe Six Pack, but the beer is good. And we're not all chumps, are we.

As bulls, we should be delighted at the high short interest. The fastest money I have ever made in the stock market was when I owned stock during a short squeeze. Short sellers must buy back the stock eventually, so the downward pressure they put on will eventually turn into upward pressure. Since I am a long term investor, the more shorts the better. In the absence of any great news I don't think the stock price will rebound until the semiconductor equipment group and the general market turn more bullish. The TA picture doesn't look good. CYMI has had poor relative performance compared to the NASDAQ for the last 2 months, and has crept below the support around 26. It's oversold, but it could stay that way a long time.
Whenever I find myself bullish on a stock acting this way, I ask myself "What am I missing?" In the case of Cymer I can't find anything.

<< When they want to buy stock they take it down on low volume.>>

Market makers are notorious shorts. They certainly don't want inventory in this market, so they open the spread, and fade the bid. Until volume appears, they will take this stock down, and sell it short. When volume appears, they will all cover and it will run. I think tomorrow will be a nice day for this one, futures have reversed on Globex

dear curly,

read your input with the greatest interest. curious to know when you think this upside swing will happen?

currently we are treading water at 23.5

cymi beat earnings by 0.02 and gapped up to 29, but the rally was short-lived. do you think we will have to wait till past next earnings report to see this short squeeze.

what we really need is an upgrade from one of the big boys, but if your theory about institutional pressure holding the price down is correct, I doubt we will see this unless the short sellers drive the price below 20.
