Sometimes empires can't afford to lose the face and never when they are faced with domestic failures of monstrumental sizes. If you remember economies of Brazil, Argentine, Eastern Europe collapsed when the ratio of deficit to GDP reached 6.5%. US is now close to 13%. All what US can do to create more and more chaos to avoid few powerful states to coordinate against them. Exactly what the sick leader of the wolf pack is doing. Create illusion that there is not alternative. So far divide and rule is still in works and I really don't know if other countries have an alternative worked out. But they will if they will see that technology could not win over human determination and in Afghanistan the mightest military is losing ground rapidly. This country is like a symbol in modern history, like Iran or maybe better ancient Persia was a symbol of face to Roman Empire. Persia was the country which captured Roman Emperor in the won battle and held him in public display for many years till his death. Romans were never able to revenge.
