The same point holds for the last 8 years.

The fact is that the poor in America are better off today than they were 8 years ago, when measured in terms of standards of living, which is, of course, the appropriate measure.

The poor, for example, have benefited tremendously from the proliferation of Walmarts and other discount stores, which allows them to buy essentially everything they need at lower real cost than ever before. And those savings are attributable in large part to imports from places like China.

You don't think Medicare Part D helped the poor?

What is the basis for an 8 year framework?

FWIW, I've been talking mostly about my lifetime, the early part of which was spent in the lower working class. I did address my retirement, though, which occurred 8 years ago. My cost of living is definitely down.
