I don't think the Apaches are any good at most of the altitudes these guys are operating at. Warthogs would be good but seem nowhere to be found.

Thought the Apache pilots had FLIR which would make them stand out.

They do. Still you need a highly skilled ground controller to keep from shooting friendlies.

I don't know the flight specs on the Apache longbow. I do know it was fitted with bigger engines. Also the ordinance load restricts altitude.
