A lot of RightWingWackoCreationists like to confuse evolution with how life may of started on earth:

en.wikipedia.org

<<In the natural sciences, abiogenesis, or "chemical evolution", is the study of how life on Earth could have arisen from inanimate matter. It should not be confused with evolution, which is the study of how groups of living things change over time.>>

Greg has been told this but apparently can't remember... OTOH it's probably one of the mainstays in the belief system, so it's probably tough to let go of.

>>Where do you think the fossils came from? That would be my first evidence. A creation necessarily entails the existence of a Creator.<<

"Who created the creator?"

Do you actually think that is a meaningful response? I thought you said you taught philosophy?

Let me put it this way. A scientist finds an ancient tomb with a huge amount of information written on the wall. The scientist concludes the tomb and the writing on the wall was obviously made by someone. A supposedly smart guy with a philosophy degree comes along and says: "HA! Who made the guy who made the tomb. YOU HAVE BEEN REFUTED!!!!"

Do you have any idea just how dumb that kind of response makes you look?
