* Shares up about 10 pct

Oct 6 (Reuters) - Canadian gold miner Semafo Inc (SMF.TO) said third-quarter gold production increased 12 percent, helped mainly by higher production at its Mana mine in Burkina Faso.

For the quarter ended Sept. 30, production totalled 62,000 ounces, while Mana produced 41,600 ounces, representing about two-thirds of the total production, the company said in a statement.

Semafo said gold sales averaged $969 an ounce, slightly above the average London PM Fix price of $960 per ounce.

Semafo, which currently has gold mines in Guinea, Burkina Faso and Niger, reiterated its previous overall production outlook of 220,000 ounces to 240,000 ounces for 2009.

Shares of Semafo, which have gained about 32 percent in the past three months, were up about 8 percent at C$3.01 in morning trade on the Toronto Stock Exchange. They earlier touched a high of C$3.06 during the day. (Reporting by Amit Kumar in Bangalore; Editing by Maju Samuel)
