Indeed...I just heard a very sophisticated money manager on Bloomberg radio say that he doesn't think that the increase in gold is being driven by "bonafide demand" for the physical metal. It's just hedge funds and investors hedging their portfolios. Ummm...okay! But about a year ago, a friend of mine who barely finished high school told me that his friends (who wait tables and tend bar for a living) were buying as much physical silver as they could afford. Maybe Joe Sixpack deserves more credit than he gets. And of course the moneyed class has already got theirs. It's that big swath in the middle that are still asleep in their La-Z-Boys, clutching the remote control.
