Avonlea Minerals identifies high grade base metal mineralisation in Namibia

proactiveinvestors.co.uk

Avonlea Minerals (ASX: AVZ) has encountered high-grade base metal mineralisation during reconnaissance work being undertaken in the northern portion of its 1,000 sq km Okatumba prospecting licence in Namibia.

Even though the regional exploration program had been primarily designed to look at the project’s iron ore potential, the Perth-based junior indicated that activities were also directed towards base and precious metals investigations.

Rock chip samples uncovered base metal mineralisation in close proximity to Fe mineralisation. Better results included 15.9% copper and 414 g/t silver from one grab sample and 6.2% copper, 41 g/t silver and 988 ppm molybdenum from another.

Dimensions of these base metal occurrences are yet to be determined and the company advised its geological team would revisit the sites to gather further information.

Avonlea added that artisanal mining for visible copper specimens is a feature of this region and that it intended to draw on the local knowledge of the artisanal miners to help assess continuity and length of known copper mineralisation within the area.

Further assay results from the reconnaissance program are pending.

David Riekie managing director of Avonlea said that “while our focus remains iron ore, these results will contribute to building a clearer picture of the geological setting and range of economic mineral potential on this licence”.
