Russians have some serious jihad-related problems of their own, which are certain to flare up in the future. > It's a little like the lead up and into WWII. Stalin and Adolf were good friends with a deal to not attack each other. Stalin thought it a jolly idea that Adolf spread his wings elsewhere, giving the west something to get their teeth into. It wasn't that he thought Adolf was a nice bloke and good golfing buddy, it was that he thought it much better than France, Britain and perhaps the USA would soften him up first. In the event, Adolf turned on Stalin with a vengeance, but was then pounded into submission. The situation now is comparable. Amendiejihad represents a totalitarian world-conquering ideology with no boundaries and right and might on their side with their local yokel masses swarming to support the one true Allah's march to victory. They are of course nowhere near as capable as Adolf's intellectual and industrial horsepower - they can't even make petrol in Iran though they are awash in oil and plan to build a pipeline to India and get a nuclear power station instead of burning their gas right there. It is not at all that Putin and co want Iran to have nukes. They want that no more than they would have wanted Adolf to be demonstrating his atomic bomb prowess and missile launching technology. They do not intend to have that and the way they intend not to have it is the same way they avoided Adolf going for them [for a while] = sign friendly trade and whatnot agreements with Iran, while admonishing USA/UK/France to be friendly to nice Adolf. They hope that USA, Israel, and some coalition will solve the problem for them while enmeshing the coalition and the region in quite a mess leaving Russia hydrocarbon sales to proceed unimpeded through the north to Europe at a good high price due to lack of Greenhouse Effect and absence of oil via the Straits of Hormuz. Hopefully soon to catch the big winter sales. Mqurice
