Good point, I hadn't thought about the buyer on the other side of the trade. In the aggregate though, I think the money flow in or out of stocks has some bearing on demand for US dollars. For the most part, money flow has been retreating from the market since the middle of September during which time the dollar has been up about as many days as it's been down.

It just seems intuitive that people are buying dollars and buying Treasuries when the market is going sideways or down.
