I think Lane just answered your question:

the clear default is to do things privately but to allow 1) that there are some things that appropriately belong to the government and 2) some constraints on the natural proclivities of the private sector may sometimes be needed.

THe right amount of government will sustain a framework in which individuals can do their best. Too much government will have a stiffling and discouraging effect.

Remember - "default is to do things privately". That's the way it should be. I'm yet to see any serious reason as to why healthcare must become a government monopoly.

Roadwalker, there are probably many, many folks out there that would like to be 'rugged individualists' <ggg> but can't because our current healthcare system won't allow them to obtain insurance.... I've invested a whole lot of time and sweat in making it as an trader - but I'm sure I don't qualify based on my views...<gg>

Regards,
John

anyone care to make a list of all the things we do collectively, yes through government, that make your success possible?

Provide for the common defense. Provide a common currency. Provide a unified foreign policy. The Judiciary. They are enumerated in the Constitution.

Everything else drags down the country. Our Founding Fathers were far wiser than we seem to be.
