McConnell: Reid, Democrats will write real health care bill behind closed doors By: Mark Tapscott Editorial Page Editor beltway-confidential 10/08/09 12:48 PM EDT That much-ballyhooed Baucus version of Obamacare is irrelevant, according to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, because Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will write the real Senate version of Obamacare and he will do it in secret. “This partisan Finance Committee proposal will never see the Senate floor since the real bill will be written by Democrat leaders in a closed-to-the-public conference room somewhere in the Capitol,” McConnell said. He pointed to a Politico story yesterday and a New York Times story last week in which Reid's top aides began drafting the text that will actually be sent to the Senate floor, perhaps as early as next week. Only a select group is allowed to participate in the drafting, including Reid's chief health care advisors, White House officials, and key aides to Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont.) and Sen.
