The $650 bn is the official figure, but does not include costs of Iraq and Afghanistan and other things too secret to put in a budget. Shadowstats could really have fun with that figure.

It is a bloated, obese, unnecessary and unaffordable figure. It will be a trillion for FY 2010.

At one point, we spent more on defense than the total amount spent by the rest of the world.

In these straightened budgetary times, I can easily see taxpayers rebelling against this kind of vast expenditure. I certainly think it needs to be curtailed.
