Rick, I'm not trying to get into a pi**ing contest with you, but Dial Data doesn't have the greatest reputation for clean data. The best is Worden brothers TC2000, the close second (and maybe just as clean) is Quotes Plus. I belong to a loose knit group of about a hundred TA affecionados that use Metastock, WOW, Advanced GET, TC2000, or Technifilter Plus, etc and no one uses Dial Data. The NASDAQ short interest is compiled only by NASDAQ once a month--there is no intramonthly update. If Dial Data says the short interest is 7903, then they are simply wrong. Actually, both figures are infinitesimal and of no consequence anyway. 5000 or 8000 out of 42,000,000 essentially represents one trade. Since BCMD has never been shortable, this probably represents some market maker's short--they can naked short a stock ostensibly to maintain an orderly market. Check this url for how short interest figures are arrived at (FAQ) and short position on ANY NASDAQ stock. The latest available are 9710 nasd.com MFN was marginable and was heavily shorted prior to end of January. Just because the price drops below margin requirements doesn't mean that if you are on margin that you have to cover it completely, and if you are short, you can continue that short position. Call Datek and see if they will let you short MFN--or even initiate a new buy on margin. If they say yes, ask for an auathorization to short X amount of shares, IOW make them put up. An authorization doesn't obligate you to short it--just enables you to do it if you want to. If I am considering shorting a stock, I always get authorization first thing in the morning because it can take a while to get that authorization and the price can change a lot in the meantime. The authorization is usually good only for that day. Regards, Gary
