It will be interesting to see if we in the US embrace natural gas as a bridge fuel. A simple mandate could replace a large chunk of coal generated power - today (compensation would be needed for those damaged by legislative fiat).

I also wonder what the cost would have to be to generate a supply of say 25 Ts per year.

Build gas fired plants and use the electricity for electric cars.

start with:
Milk and newspaper delivery, taxis fleets, postal service, DHL, FEDEX and UPS all should have an tax incentive to move to electric powered vehicles.

Any rented car electric would be rented at a discount so normal people test drive and get use to them.
