We went up to Port Wing which is right on the South Shore of Lake Superior last Thursday to 4 wheel and play around. Our intent was to return Saturday afternoon to attend a fund raiser in honor of a neighbor with breast cancer. Woke at 5:30 to go to the bathroom and took a look outside to find 2" of snow on the ground and a white out. Told Kristy to pack up we are hitting the road NOW. 15 minutes later we were heading down the road with a 38' motorhome and trailer. Not a real thrilling drive. When we got to Hwy 53 it was glare ice. 35 mph for the next 120 miles. I can't count the number of people that flew by us only to find them up the road later on in the ditch. Morons.

We could have it turned out waited until afternoon as it stopped snowing and melted off. I don't trust that area however with the lake affect snow. One Halloween up there it started to snow and didn't quit until 42" were on the ground. It was 4 days before we could get out of there.

It is 28 and snowing quite heavily right now in fact. 3" expected. GW my ass.

You would think folks who live in Colorado the year round would know how to drive the winter roads. But, nah, they don't learn, drive too fast, follow too close, don't pay attention... and smash up themselves and their cars.

It's all the Callyfornians you have living there now.

Glad your pastor is ok. That could have been a very nasty accident.

We have the same thing here in and around Seattle...People come here from everywhere, but many don't pay attention to the hills, bridges, cold weather, and just lose their minds on the freeways...we have people zooming in and out of lanes going 75+ mph, cutting in from the right and the left, etc etc...when we have a snowstorm, it is tricky enough because of all the hills, but when we have nincompoops on the roads, you just take your life in your hands to go anywhere... Probably CO is a good deal similar...many people come from areas where there isn't snow to deal with and they loose it when the little flakes come down...

Your pastor is very fortunate indeed...

It's amazing how poorly people drive most of the time, but in bad weather it can be disastrous. Driving on ice takes a very light touch on all the controls, brakes, steering, accelerator. It can be done, but it's still dangerous.

I try to stay off the road if I think the passes will be hazardous, because I don't trust anybody but myself.
