Inotera and Nanya announce machinery purchases Printer friendly Related stories Comments Email to a friend Latest news Advertisement Jessie Shen, DIGITIMES, Taipei [Thursday 15 October 2009] DRAM makers Inotera Memories and Nanya Technology have recently spent NT$8.28 billion (US$257 million) and NT$1.26 billion, respectively, on new equipment, according to company filings with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE). Inotera on October 7 and 14 announced it acquired two separate batches of semiconductor equipment from Lam Research and ASML for NT$4.33 billion and NT$3.95 billion, respectively. So far in 2009, Inotera have completed five separate purchases totaling about NT$11.99 billion from its fab tool suppliers. Including its acquisition of MeiYa Technology facility, Inotera's total investment in machinery equipment amounted to NT$14.59 billion as of October 14. Nanya recently announced two separate purchases from unspecified equipment suppliers. So far in 2009, Nanya has spent a total of around NT$16.09 billion on new equipment. DRAMeXchange said in its recent report that Nanya is looking to speed up its process migration to Micron Technology's 50nm stack in the first quarter of 2010. Nanya has installed two sets of immersion lithography equipment. Inotera has also moved in one immersion tool, according to DRAMeXchange, noting that the Micron-Nanya joint venture plans to add 3-5 sets in 2010. After its migration to 50nm, Inotera's production cost for 1Gb DDR2 and DDR3 chips will be lowered to US$1.50 on average compared to US$2.50 under Qimonda's 70nm, the research firm said. Inotera and Nanya are scheduled to complete their technology transition to 50nm stack at the end of 2010 to gear up production of DDR3 chips, according to previous reports.
