is there a way to ignore the subject 'global warming'on SI?

This sounded so appealing that the #10 recommendation is from me... :)

I read one book on this subject and maybe as many as a 100 or so articles, starting some 20-30 years ago. It's hard to figure out this issue, especially since it became so politicized. I'd go on happily ignoring it, or maintaining it as a peripheral back burner interest.... the problem is that we may soon have major (and expensive) legislation on this subject, as if it is already resolved.

...But then again, we keep doing stimuli and bailouts as if we knew for sure that they'll do more good than harm.

It sounds like a great idea, except that the way government policies address the GW debate will have a major impact on the price of oil.

I don't think you can get away from GW on an energy thread.

(It would be nice if the ideologues didn't bring their soap boxes along with them, tho.)

About as much chance as avoiding taxes. Global Warming will be built into the tax and economic structures. Like politics and crabgrass, this will be around much longer than we like.

Vi, >>>>is there a way to ignore the subject 'global warming'on SI?<<<<

If I may...a small dose of GitaLong Wisdom from this side of Eighty. If GW is to be ignored or avoided, one may as well avoid discussing Drillers, Crude, NG, and all other related topics since the current Administration, EPA, and other "tree hugger types" are so intent on eliminating, as quickly as possible, all further production of Fossil Energy on this planet....even BEFORE sufficient replacement of alternatives are made available to the human race. This seems, to this observer,an obviously irrational objective on their part. My inclination to resist this threat is based on the popularity of this growing "movement" amongst the koolaid crowd that elected the present administration....and I would think most other defenders of our continued existence in this regard are mostly motivated by this same concern.

Seems practical that we should do all we can to continue developing FOSSIL FUELS domestically AND strive to bring about the VIABLE ALTERNATIVE REPLACEMENTS at the same time, allowing free enterprise capitalism to achieve these noble goals. This would reduce the U.S. dependence on foreign sources far more rapidly and be more effective in achieving our economic recovery IMHO.
