CALGARY — A chilly Thanksgiving weekend broke an 80-year-old record when the temperature plunged to -16.1 C in Calgary Monday.

The old record of -13.3 C was set in 1928, said Environment Canada meteorologist Brian Proctor.

“Across much of southern Alberta, wherever we got clear skies (Sunday) night, the temperature plunged.”

“It was quite the cold morning,” Proctor said.

According to Environment Canada, nine records were shattered across the province as the mercury plummeted Monday.
