In the short run and argument can be made that spending it might be as, or even more helpful.

But beyond the very short run investment is what's needed for growth and increases in the standard of living.

Not that I'd advocated taking from those who are poor and giving to rich investors, not only would it be morally wrong, and politically create pressure for socialism, it would also distort the economy in negative ways just as its reverse would. The moral and practical thing is to let people keep most of their own money.

"Spreading it around", to any large degree, from any defined group to any other defined group, encourages rent-seeking, dependency, tax evasion and such, while discouraging work, savings/investment, and risk taking.
