There is a theory that gold miners lead, but it it doesn't always work. Sometimes POG leads and eventually drags the gold miners higher whether they like it or not.

Also energy (or cost to mine) vs. gold is a good thing to keep an eye on. Higher production costs or perceived higher production costs will make the miners lose some or all of their "normal" leverage on POG moves.

I could think of a couple of other possibilities, but the bottom line is that it may mean something or it may just be noise. Still I don't think any of like to see it. Lagging miners means that you get double the risk of gold, but not double the reward...
