Protectionism is practiced daily by our government...unfortunately against our own businesses by very large corporations. Monopolies.

Like giving GM billions so they can expand in China.


That may be a form of protectionism, and it's a shame the government bailed out GM while Ford didn't need any bail out... GM should have simply gone bankrupt and that would have been the end of this bail out crap...

But protectionism means that we would only buy our cars from GM or from an American auto maker, and we wouldn't buy anything at all made in another country... that would be the end of our trade with China... protectionism doesn't work in this day and age, and there's no reason we should even consider it in the first place... we could mind our own business and still trade with other countries...
