Thanks. Synch and timing, long thought to be waning considerations in an increasingly asynchronous universe, are coming back with a vengeance in several ways. Aside from cellular apps already noted, two other such needs arise in the general need for timing in carrier-grade metro and long-haul Ethernet networks ( bit.ly ), and in utility (SCADA/EMS/state-estimation) smart grid applications, which are increasingly being tied to GPS timing sources, where the time-stamping of measurements of instantaneous phenomena related to voltage and current phase angles and frequency drift must meet with exacting preciseness. ------
