I just don't think that is enough to get 50lbs more than a couple of feet off the ground.

According to this site, a 380 cubic foot balloon has enough loft to get 14lbs off the ground.

They should be talking to physicist to determine if that balloon could even lift the kid...that would probably save a lot of time in the search.
