Dale -

That would require the ability to change their ideas based on the emergence of new evidence. Given that so many of them seem to be unable to grasp newfangled ideas like the theory of Evolution, perhaps it isn't so surprising that they don't understand the implications of recent elections and public opinion polls.

I imagine some day the truth will dawn. The democratic party can't cater to the extreme left (despite what the extreme right thinks) and if the republicans ever want to succeed, they will need to moderate also.

Cleary at this moment, when they see even the "moderates" of their own party as traitors, the time is not yet at hand for a middle-ward migration. But it will have to happen- or the republican party will becomes as irrelevant as the libertarians.
